Independent Audit
If elected, I will work for a more open and transparent city government. I want a city government that respects the liberty of its citizens, realizes that it serves at the pleasure of those citizens, and is limited to those functions individuals cannot do for themselves.
First, I will call for an independent audit of the city budget. The current city council is moving to eliminate the Board of Estimate and Taxation which is the one independent body that can audit the city books. Is this a coincidence?
Second, I will also press for an audit of all city government contracts so the citizens can see who benefits from these lucrative contracts.
The current city leadership has squandered the public trust and the only way to regain that trust is to have a truly transparent system of government. We shouldn’t have to be a CPA to understand where our money goes!
